  • Founder of the Parish
  • Canon

Milton Robert Shaw passed to a life of higher service on Friday morning, September 16, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 28, 1927, to Leon and Helen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Irving and his daughter, Karen. He is survived by his wife, Soledad; a son, Alan, his grandson Robert and great-grandson Robert in Illinois; a son, Michael and granddaughters, Stephanie and Melanie in Virginia; and a son, Douglas and granddaughter Frances in Iowa.

He was proud of the time he served in the US Navy. He enlisted in 1943 and left that service as a lieutenant in 1948.

Milton graduated from the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy with a PhD in Pharmacology and went to work for Walgreens. He became a district manager with the Walgreens system and then the cosmetics buyer for the Walgreens system.

After retiring from Walgreens, Milton started a second career as clergy with The Liberal Catholic Church, Province of the USA. He was ordained to priesthood on May 3, 1992 at St. Raphael's Church in San Jose, CA. In 1994, he moved to Rio Rancho, NM, to start a church. In 1995 he began celebrating Mass in his living room. His congregation quickly outgrew the living room and the Church of Our Lady Queen of Angels, The Liberal Catholic Church, Province of the USA  moved to a store front on Southern Blvd. in Rio Rancho. In 2002, the cornerstone was laid for the current location of the Church of Our Lady Queen of Angels. That church remains active with a growing and vibrant congregation.

In 2008, Milton became a Freemason and was active in the local Masonic Lodge, Sandoval Lodge #76.

The services for the celebration of Fr. Milton R. Shaw's life were held Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Our Lady Queen of Angels.
